Screening 3 – Wellbeing Ultrasound
from the 26th week of pregnancy – ideally in the 33rd-36th week
Goal - Clarification of
- Circulatory and growth disorders of the child
- any late-manifesting malformations or abnormalities
Cost of the examination
€200Precise developmental diagnostics to ensure the best possible care for your baby
This ultrasound examination is used to determine whether your baby is developing optimally in the womb. To do this, we check the position of the baby and the placenta as well as the amount of amniotic fluid. The baby's weight, blood flow, and growth are monitored. Several organs are also examined again – in particular the brain, heart, and kidneys. In very rare cases, abnormalities can still appear in these organs even after an inconspicuous organ screening (Screening 22). However, this examination is by no means a substitute for Screening 22.
By measuring the blood flow in the child's arterial and venous vessels as well as in the umbilical cord (Doppler flow measurement), we clarify any placental insufficiency. If the supply to your unborn child is not ideal, the point in time until which your child can develop well in the womb must be determined. This allows the best possible date of birth to be planned.
- You will receive the results immediately following the examination.
- If the position of the baby allows it, we will gladly take a 3D ultrasound image during the examination upon request.
- Your ultrasound images are immediately available to you digitally!

The Doppler examination (wellbeing ultrasound, Doppler ultrasound) is performed like a conventional ultrasound through the abdominal wall and is used to detect potential circulatory and growth disorders in the baby. It measures the blood flow in specific blood vessels (arteries of the uterus, the umbilical cord, and the baby's brain), which is used to assess the baby's oxygen supply.
The Doppler ultrasound (well-being ultrasound, Doppler scan) can be performed as early as the 12th week of pregnancy. In Screening 12 (from the 12th week of pregnancy), Screening 22 (from the 21st week), as well as Screening 32 (from the 26th week), the blood flow of the uterus is assessed by measuring the uterine arteries, thereby ensuring the blood supply and growth of the child.
Screening 32 usually takes 20 minutes. During screening 32, an ultrasound scan is performed using Doppler ultrasound (Doppler examination, Doppler sonography). Ultrasound images and findings are available immediately after the examination.
